Last week, the mv Waalvliet and mv Rijnvliet were officially christened in a festive ceremony. Developed in close collaboration with Hartel Shipping & Chartering B.V. , Holland Shipyards Group and Hudig & Veder Chartering, these vessels represent a proud new chapter in sustainable and flexible shortsea shipping.

Based on the Vlietdesign 3800, both ships are 89.42 metres long and designed for maximum versatility. They feature a full-length tween deck, reinforced bulkheads for heavy cargo, and are fully equipped for both container and breakbulk transport. Their ability to sail “open top” also allows for the transportation of oversized cargo.

A key highlight is the diesel-electric propulsion system, offering efficient and environmentally conscious performance. Additionally, both vessels will be fitted with the innovative VentoFoil system by eConowind, using wind power to further reduce fuel consumption.

We are extremely proud of these vessels – a perfect blend of smart technology, sustainable design, and practical functionality. With the Waalvliet and Rijnvliet, we’re confidently sailing into the future of European shipping.
